DAY 1 • Rome
Arrival at Rome airport and transfer to the hotel. Discover the wonders of the eternal city on a Hop on Hop off panoramic bus tour (valid for one day). The bus will make eight stops and will provide you with an on-board audio commentary in 12 languages. The rest of the evening is at leisure. Return to your hotel on your own. Accommodation in Rome.
DAY 2 • Rome • Assisi • Siena • Florence • 375 km
Early morning departure to Assisi. Explore this medieval city on your own, where you can visit the Basilica of Saint Francis to see some masterpieces of Giotto and Cimabue and enjoy a lunch in Assisi. Continue to Siena, the medieval city renowned for its Piazza del Campo and Palio horse race. Proceed to Florence and accommodation.
DAY 3 • Florence
After breakfast at the hotel, depart for a guided city tour of the beautiful Duomo, Brunelleschi’s Dome, Giotto’s Bell Tower, and the Baptistery. Admire Piazza della Signoria, Palazzo Vecchio, and Santa Croce Basilica. Lunch in a typical Tuscan restaurant. Afternoon is at leisure or you can take an optional excursion to Pisa ($). DAY 4 • Florence • Bologna • Venice • 264 km
Breakfast at the hotel. Depart to Bologna to discover this elegant city. From Piazza Malpighi you will walk to Piazza Maggiore and admire the Basilica of San Petronio and Palazzo del Podestà. DAY 5 • Venice
After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to Piazza San Marco with a guided tour to admire the most iconic places of the “Floating City” such as the Doge’s Palace (exterior) and cross the Bridge of Sighs. After the walking tour, you will enjoy a glass of spritz or prosecco including “cicchetti” (a venetian variation of tapas). Afternoon is free and return to the hotel on your own. DAY 6 • Venice • Montepulciano • Rome • 543 km
Breakfast at the hotel. Depart for Tuscany to the medieval city of Montepulciano. You’ll have the opportunity to purchase its famous wine ‘‘Nobile’’, an emblematic Montepulciano product. Lunch in a typical local restaurant, paired with a glass of fine Tuscan wine. Continue to Rome and accommodation.
DAY 7 • Rome
Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning depart for a guided tour of the Vatican Museums and its Sistine Chapel (no guide). The tour will end in St. Peter’s Square. In the afternoon, explore the eternal city at your own pace. Accommodation in Rome.
DAY 8 • Rome • Pompeii • Sorrento • 275 km
Early morning departure for Pompeii. Upon arrival you will have a lunch of authentic Neapolitan pizza. After lunch, enjoy a guided visit (skip the line) to the archaeological site of a city both destroyed and preserved by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Continue towards Sorrento. Supper (dress code: jacket for men) and accommodation in Sorrento.
DAY 9 • Sorrento • Capri • Sorrento • 40 km
After breakfast, transfer to the port and depart by ferry to the island of Capri. Upon arrival at Marina Grande in Capri, you will visit the Blue Grotto (weather and capacity permitting. Guide will suggest alternative excursions). After lunch on your own, you’ll have free time to explore the island at your leisure. Return to Marina Grande to board the ferry for your transfer back to Sorrento. Supper and accommodation at hotel in Sorrento.
DAY 10 • Sorrento • Rome • 265km
Breakfast at the hotel. Morning is at leisure to explore Sorrento or visit the picturesque towns of Positano, Ravello or Amalfi. In the afternoon, you will take the bus back to Rome. Accommodation in Rome.
